Head Protection
Life is hard, but your head is delicate and in need of protection. OSHA 29CFR 1910.135(a)(1) requires employers to ensure that each affected employee wears a protective helmet when working in areas where there is a potential for injury to the head from falling objects.
Hard hats consist of two parts including the shell and the suspension, and both must be in good working condition. Most safety programs deem the typical life of a hard hat to be two years under the normal working conditions. Ultra-violet rays are a leading cause of hard hat degradation. Additionally, some obvious signs of wear include small cracks, flaking or chalking in either the shell or suspension or both.
